Our church has been a part of the Maplewood community for forty-plus years, yet we are not just another church in the community. Although we have members from the local area, many of our people drive from various parts of St. Louis City, St. Louis County, Jefferson County, and the state of Illinois to attend our church, passing by church after church on their way. Why would they do this? Because they find at Bible Baptist Church a unique ministry with the emphasis being on what a church is supposed to be all about, but so few of our day really are - God, His Word, and His Worship! Our church is an old-fashioned, Baptist Church. It is not that we lack modern and attractive facilities, wear out-of-date clothes or speak archaic English. We are old-fashioned in our Doctrine, Practice, and Attitude toward Christian life. If you are looking for a Christian Sideshow or social entertainment, you will not be happy with our church. If you desire to be told only what you want to hear, rather than what you need to hear, our church is not for you. However, if you would have the Old Gospel boldly presented, come be with us! We attempt to preach the Gospel as it is to men as they are - totally unable and in need of God's Grace.

Bridgetown Baptist Church was formed in 1979 by a group of people led by Bro. Rolla Utley. Having come to understand the Doctrines of Grace, they desired to form a church through which these truths could be preached to the community of Bridgetown and the surrounding areas of Senatobia, Hernando, Nesbit, Olive Branch and Southaven in Mississippi and Memphis, TN. Bro. Utley retired in 1994 and Bro. Larry Dean was called from Bossier City, Louisiana where he had served in three Sovereign Grace churches; Reformed Baptist Church of Shreveport, New Testament Baptist Church of Shreveport, and Grace Community Church of Shreveport. We, the congregation of Bridgetown Baptist Church, are an independent, God- fearing and God loving family oriented church providing Biblical answers to life’s problems. We purpose, by God’s grace, to carry out the Great Commission in our setting. We will go into our community with the gospel of the Sovereign Grace of God in the Finished Work of Jesus Christ, discipling those who believe to Historic Christianity as defined in the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith. We will celebrate our faith in traditional Christian worship; we will evangelize and train our children; and we will support faithful gospel missionaries at home and abroad through direct gifts and prayers, looking always to Jesus Christ, the Foundation of our church.

Calvary Baptist Church was established in 1927 in Pine Bluff Arkansas. In 1946-47 a new building was constructed on West 2nd Ave. which remains the meeting place of Calvary Baptist Church. At the time of the new construction E.W. Johnson was pastoring the church. He continued in the pastorate here until the year 2000. Pastor Johnson was loved and respected in the Sovereign Grace Baptist community. He labored faithfully in the preaching ministry in this assembly as well as preaching in conferences throughout the country. Many current pastors and churches hold the doctrines of grace today due to pastor Johnson's influence.

Calvary Baptist Church has remained faithful to the gospel of God's saving and sovereign grace through the years. This of course is owing solely to God's provision in the power of the Spirit of Christ.

The church has been and is currently involved in missionary efforts. One misnomer concerning Calvinistic doctrines is that missionary zeal lapses when the doctrines of grace are embraced. Nothing could be further from the truth with Calvary Baptist Church. Consistently through the years, while the Calvary pulpit was teaching God's sovereignty in salvation, the need for the spread of the gospel has been equally taught, appreciated, and applied.

The church adopted the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith (with some revisions) as a testimony of its doctrine. Grace Baptist Church was established to provide a place where people could worship God reverently without the entertainment atmosphere that is so prevalent in the typical Baptist church of today. We at Grace Baptist have the desire to practice God-glorifying evangelism, the kind that aims at true conversions, not empty professions of faith produced by high-pressure methodology. Gospel preaching and witnessing is to be done passionately, but in full dependence upon the Holy Spirit to quicken those that are dead in sin. Grace Baptist Church was established so people could hear the Word of God preached, not listen to emotional stories or to the latest felt-needs of modern man. Grace Baptist Church is committed to expositional preaching and teaching. It is the Word of God that the Holy Spirit uses in bringing sinners to faith and in maturing the saints. After much prayer and soul searching by several families Grace Baptist Church began meeting in the Fall of 1989. The church was formally constituted in March of 1990. The church has gone through many trials and hardships since its founding but the Lord has maintained the work and we pray that it will continue to be owned by Him in the future.

The gospel we proclaim is Biblically described as “the preaching of Jesus Christ” and in 1 Timothy 1:11 it is called “the glorious gospel of the blessed God,” the original language also translatable as “the glad tidings of the glory of the blessed God.” There is in the gospel the revelation of the glory of God. We believe firmly that those whom God redeems from sin and unto Himself through “Jesus Christ and Him crucified” come to behold His glory in the gospel.

Yet the gospel is the record of a Man, His miraculous virgin birth, His perfect life, teachings, miracles, death, resurrection and ascension. He is a Man. But He is God and Man in one person. So that in this Man the glory of God is manifested, and as Paul the apostle taught in 2 Corinthians 4:6, there shines forth “the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” He is our ministry, our life, our Saviour and our Lord. The preaching and expounding of the Word of God is central in all of our services, and the desire to ever increase in the knowledge of God in Christ our pursuit.
